The track team completed their season at State Finals on May 30th. Chargers competed well across the day in a variety of events and the team walked away with 7 all state athletes and a new school record. The meet started with the 3200 meter relay where the team of Ryan Rathsburg, Griffin Solano, James Phillips and Alex Iordanou competed hard and finished 29th overall. With 3 sophomores and a freshman in the line up the future is bright for this group. Next up were the preliminary heats for the 100 and 200 meter dashes. In the preliminary heats the winner of each heat advances to the finals along with non-winners to fill out the 8 person final. In the 100 there were 5 preliminary heats which left 3 spots for time qualifiers. Jayce Beauchamp ran a strong race and finished 15th overall with a time of 11.04. Beauchamp just missed the finals as the cut off was 10.97. Next up was Grant Roberts in the 200 meter preliminary round. Grant took control of his heat from the start and cruised to the win. In the 200 meter preliminaries Michaela Wolosuk had an uphill battle as she was ranked 18th in the 23 woman field. In her final race as a Charger Wolosuk got out strong, ran a great curve and finished hard down the final stretch. She finished 15th overall but when the dust cleared Micheala ran a time of 26.05 which is not only a personal best but also shattered the school record at 200!. The prior record was held by Monique Williams in a time of 26.24 which was set at the 1998 Regional Championships. Monique was the driving force behind the strong sprint relays of the mid 1990s. In the field events Sophomore Evah Smith was making her second trip to the state finals. After placing 20th as a freshmen. Smith drew upon her experience and launched the shot a personal best distance of 37’11.75 which was good for 8th place and all state honors. Back on the track the 2nd ranked men’s 800 meter relay team of Princeton Clack, Jayce Beauchamp, Hudson Miller and Grant Roberts held off a surging Otsego team to capture 2nd place for the 2nd straight year. This is the 5th time since 2019 that a Powers 800 meter relay team has made the podium. Next up with Bryce Gross in the 1600 meter run. Gross started the season with knee surgery and was unable to train until April. Simply qualifying for the state finals was a huge success for Gross. With a qualifying time of 4:28 Gross was in the slow heat but his goal was nothing less than a podium finish. Gross knew that he would have to get to the front of the race and push the pace in order to run a time fast enough to stand up against the fast heat. Gross ran a season best time of 4:20.81 which JUST missed the top 8 but was good enough for 10th overall. This performance is a huge success given that Bryce was recovering from knee surgery 12 weeks ago. Next up was the 400 meter relay. The Chargers have been a regular on the podium in the 400 meter relay with teams earning top 8 finishes in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. The top finish was a runner up in 2021. The team of Hudson Miller, Jayce Beauchamp, Breckin Cicalo and Grant Roberts was coming off a regional title and school record. Ranked 3rd going into the finals the Chargers executed flawless handoffs and ran a time of 42.40 which was good enough for 3rd place. The time was just 0.08 slower than the school record and is the fastest a group of Chargers have ever run a the state finals. Next came the 200 meter final. Senior Grant Roberts was the runner up in 2025 but going in we knew it was going to be a very fast final. An amazing 10 athletes ran under 22.00 in the preliminary rounds. Historically sub 22 would almost always guarantee a top 4 finish. In 2026 this didn’t even earn a place in the finals. Grant ran a personal best time of 21.63 which was good enough for 4th overall. Robert’s time would not only have won in 2025 but it was faster than the state champion in 9 of the previous 10 years. Next up were seniors Caleb Carignan and Tommy Bieter in their final races in a Powers uniform. Caleb got out strong and went after a top 8 finish before finishing in 16th with a time of 9:54.65. Tommy finished 24th with a time of 10:23.52. In the final race of the day the 1600 meter relay team took the track. The team of Quiton Cokley, Jayce Beauchamp, Princeton Clack and Grant Roberts came into the meet ranked 2nd. Princeton Clack ran a brilliant leadoff leg and handed off to Cokely in 1st overall. Cokely battled with Frankenmuth and Country Day who ultimately finished 1-2 but fatigued legs got to the Chargers in the 3rd and 4th legs as Beauchamp and Roberts were on their 4th and 5th races of the day. The Chargers finished in 5th overall with the fine time of 3:25.30. This is the 1st time since 2021 that all 3 spring relays have made the podium. In the team competition the men finished in 6th with a total of 23 points. This is a 1 place improvement on the 2025 finish.
