Simmons and Corcoran Pitch Gems, Walls Leads Offense The Charger Baseball squad captured the 20-something District Championship with a 8-4 win over Lake Fenton on Saturday. Powers reached the final by defeating Linden 2-0 behind Drew Simmons 2-hit, 5-strikeout gem. Kane Sekelsky and Aiden Walls delivered timely RBI hits. Lake Fenton bought its ticket to District final by taking down Kearsley 7-1. In the final, the Blue Devils jumped the Chargers in the first by taking walks and slamming line drives to earn a 2-0 lead. Aidan Corcoran entered the fray in relief and delivered a masterful 6.2 inning performance. Corcoran’s pitching allowed Powers to rally for a 7-2 lead as the Chargers coasted to an 8-4 win and came away with an MHSAA trophy. Walls led the way with 4 more hits along with 2 RBIs. Logan Gowan drove in three runs with a pair of hits. Corcoran and Eli Sturgess smacked two hits apiece. Powers will return to Lake Fenton on Wednesday at 4pm to tangle with Frankenmuth in the Regional semifinal. The Chargers move to 21-9 on the season in search of a fourth Regional crown in five years.
